Symposium on Extraterritoriality and Data Protection
On the 6th of May 2015 a Symposium on Extraterritoriality and Data Protection organized by the UNIJURIS research group will take place at the Faculty of Law of Utrecht University. On this occasion, international experts will take the floor to discuss different issues related to extraterritoriality and data protection, including the regulation of transborder data flows and the extraterritoriality of the EU’s Proposed General Data Protection Regulation, the extraterritorial reach of recent CJEU jurisprudence, including the Digital Rights Ireland decision and its extraterritorial effects on EU-third State agreements, as well as the extraterritorial reach of the EU’s ‘right to be forgotten’, and other issues related to extraterritorial jurisdiction, including the exercise of extraterritorial jurisdiction over the fundamental right to data protection and reforming the rules of jurisdiction to fit the information age.
The speakers will include Dr. Christopher Kuner (Vrije Universiteit Brussels and University of Copenhagen), Prof. Paul de Hert (Vrije Universiteit Brussels and Tilburg University), Dr. Luisa Marin (Utrecht University), Mr. Brendan Van Alsenoy (KU Leuven) and Miss Marieke Koekkoek (KU Leuven), Prof. Dan Svantesson (Bond University), as well as Miss Mistale Taylor and Prof. Cedric Ryngaert.
The seminar will take place in the Raadzaal (Achter Sint Pieter 200, 3512 HT Utrecht) from 13:00 – 18:00 hours.
